Seven including four political activists fall prey to targeted killings

Tension gripped many parts of the city as the unabated targeted killings claimed seven more lives including four political workers and a cop here on Thursday. The killings took place in different parts of the city. A bullet-riddled body of a youth was found from Bengali Para in the limits of Pak Colony police station. The identity of victim is yet to be ascertained.
The body, which was recovered from near Bismillah Hotel at Bengali Para, was shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for legal formalities and later moved to Edhi Morgue. Police said the victim, who appeared to be Bengali speaking, received fatal bullet injuries in his head. A case was registered against unidentified culprits on behalf of the state. In another incident, an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) and his son were shot dead in New Karachi in the remits of Khawaja Ajmair Nagri police station.
The incident took place at sector 5-C 1 of New Karachi, where three unknown armed men barged in the house ASI Mohammad Iqbal, investigation officer of Orangi Town police station, and fired multiple shots on him while he was sleeping. Resultantly he died on the spot.
The victim's younger son Umair, 19, who started shouting to call area people for help when the culprits trying to flee after committing the crime, was also shot and injured. Umair received fatal bullet wounds and succumbed to his injures during treatment at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH). Later the bodies were handed over to the heirs. No case was registered till filing of this report. At least two workers of Pakistan Peoples' party (PPP) were gunned down in separate incidents in North Nazimabad and PIDC Bridge on Thursday.
The victim Ashraf Ali, 42, son of Musarat Ali, who was the resident of Ali Heights Block-L North Nazimabad, was targeted by two unknown armed riders near Agha Juice Centre in the remits of North Nazimabad police station. The unidentified assailants intercepted his motorcycle at the said spot and sprayed bullets on him after exchanging hot words. Resultantly, he died on the spot. The body was shifted to ASH for post-mortem and later handed over to his heirs. Police opined that the victim, who was the activist of PPP, might be murdered on personal enmity.
Another activist of PPP, who received stray bullets in an armed attack on MQM's activists, who installed party flag on the eve 27th foundation day at PIDC Bridge on Wednesday, succumbed to his injuries at CHK on Thursday. The victim Gul Nawaz Khan, 43, son of Rahim Khan, who was the resident of Hijrat Colony and father of four children, was the activist of PPP PS-112 and hailed from Haripur Hazara.
An activist of Sunni Tehreek (ST) Farooq Qadri, 34, son of Saghir Mohammad was shot dead at meat market in Bhimpura area in the limits of Risala police station. The victim, who was the resident of Haji Ilyas Building Bhimpura and used to run a pan stall in the market, was targeted by two armed men. The body was shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for medico legal formalities. After the said incident, scores of ST workers rushed to the spot and chanted slogan against the government.
Shops in markets including Light House, Bolton Market, Ranchore Line, Bhimpura, Burns Road, Jama Cloth and other were closed as miscreants, who took to streets after the incident, resorted to aerial firing. Heavy contingents of police and rangers rushed to the area to bring the situation in control. A case was registered against unidentified men on the complaint of victim's brother Mohammad Arif.
A former body guard of Amir Khan, chief of Mohajir Qaumi Movement (MQM-H) was shot dead by unidentified armed men at Suparco road in the jurisdiction of Mobina Town police station. The victim, Ikhlaq, 45, son of Rafiq, who was the resident of Malik Society Gulshan Iqbal, was targeted when he was on the way to home from work at Suparco road. Resultantly, he sustained severe bullets injuries and succumbed to his injures at a private hospital during treatment. Police said that the victim was the activist of MQM-H Amir Khan group unit 157 Liaquatabad and father of four children. No case was registered till filing of this report.
