Firmer conditions were marked in wheat, gur, gram Australia rapeseeds, chemical items on the wholesale commodity markets, while other items fluctuated modestly. Global market speaking commodities showed generally easy tone.
On Monday wheat prices soared much to the surprise of people who know bumper production in the country. Wheat old with sack rose by Rs 80 to Rs 2780 and wheat new with sacks rose by same amount to Rs 2795. Gur low type gained Rs 200 to Rs 5000, while low type stayed put at previous Rs6000 and khandsarai was quoted at Rs 7000. Grams Australia low type posted fresh gain of Rs 500 to Rs 4900, while better type rose by Rs 600 to Rs 5100, gram dal Australia inferior rose by Rs 400 to Rs 6100, while good type gained Rs 300 to Rs 6200, bajra lost Rs75 to Rs 2400, while better type was down by Rs 100 to Rs 2800, gram 50x50 low type shed Rs 50 to Rs 5100, while better types rose by Rs 250 to Rs 5600. Irri 6 Sindh rose by Rs 50 to Rs 3300 and Rs 3350. Cotton cake, with bag low type was unchanged at Rs 1350, while better type was higher by Rs 20 to Rs 1400, rapeseed N'Shah low type rose by Rs 140 to Rs 2140, while superior type rose by Rs 100 to Rs 2150.
On Jodia Bazaar chemical items (per kg) caustic soda flakes Saudi rose by Re 1 to Rs 47, sodium sulphate closed down by 50 paisa to Rs 14.50, NJ Taiwan rose by Rs 3 to Rs 227, petroleum jelly sulphonic acid soft quoted at Rs 154, sulphonic acid hard rose by Rs 12 to Rs 175 and Rangolite "C" per pound rose by Rs 2 to Rs 84.
On Tuesday repeat performance was marked on the wholesale markets, as wheat with sacks rose by Rs 45 to Rs 2825, while wheat new with sack rose by Rs 45 to Rs 2840. Irri white (broken) low type rose by Rs 50 to Rs 2800, while better type rose by Rs 25 to Rs 2825. Cotton cakes with bag in Sindh low type rose by Rs 10 to Rs 1360, while the other variety was quoted at Rs1400.
On Wednesday lean business was marked on the commodities market where Irri Sindh 6 low rose by Rs 10 to Rs 3360, while better quality rose by Rs 25 to Rs 3435. Cotton cakes inferior type shed Rs 10 to Rs 1350, better type posted Rs 10 to Rs 1410.
On Thursday lacklustre condition was again witnessed, as masoor Canada low type shed Rs 200 to Rs 6300, while better type shed Rs 100 to Rs 6500, masoor dal Canada inferior type shed Rs 500 to Rs 7500, while better type conceded Rs 400 to Rs 7800. Gur rose sharply by Rs 300 (low type) to Rs 5300, better type rose by Rs 200 to Rs6200. Cotton seed oilcake with bag inferior type was put at Rs 1350, while the better type shed Rs 10 to Rs 1400. Gram 50 x 50 low type was quoted at Rs 5300, while better type lost Rs 100 to Rs 5500.
On Jodia Bazaar Kirana items (per 40 kg) black pepper Singapore conceded Rs 300 to Rs 17,700, mace lost Rs 1000 to Rs 89,000, nutmeg rose by Rs 2000 to Rs 30,000, big cardamom shed Rs 3000 to Rs 85,000 cloves quoted at Rs 24500, India copra lost Rs 700 to Rs 6,200. Gum Arabic shed Rs 800 to Rs 6800, long pepper rose by Rs 1000 to Rs 20,500, peanuts rose by Rs 150 to Rs 4150 and star aniseed lost Rs 100 to Rs 145.00.
On Friday not a single change was seen, as major participants were busy in preparations for Juma prayers.
On Saturday business remained sluggish, as most of the buyers kept to the sideline due to less buying interest. Wheat old (burdan) was down by Rs 15 to Rs 2815 and wheat new (burdan) also shed the same amount to Rs 2825. Gur low type was up by Rs 100 to Rs 5400 and best quality did not show any change at Rs 6200, other items maintained the overnight levels. Irri-6 Sindh low type shed Rs 10 to Rs 3350 and better type also drifted lower by Rs 50 to Rs 3375. Cottonseeds oilcake with bag Sindh inferior type was up by Rs 10 to Rs 1360, while the good type remained unchanged at Rs 1400.
On Jodia Bazaar dry fruits ended mixed. The variations were: DRY FRUITS (Per 40 kg): Almond (Girdi) was quoted at Rs 5000, Raisin No II moved upward to Rs 14,000, Chilgoza (Roasted) went lower by Rs 8000 to Rs 76,000 and Dates edged up by Rs 1000 to Rs 4,200.
