South Africa's team management said on Wednesday that an x-ray had confirmed legspinner Imran Tahir broke his left thumb in the Proteas' narrow defeat to England over the weekend. Team manager Mohammed Moosajee said the 31-year-old Pakistan-born bowler had sustained the fracture while taking a catch off his own bowling to dismiss Jonathan Trott in the six-run defeat in Chennai on Sunday.
"The X-ray that was done today revealed a small undisplaced fracture in his left thumb," Moosajee said in a statement released by Cricket South Africa. "The images have been sent home to Cricket South Africa's medical committee and we are waiting for the hand specialist, Dr Mike Solomons, to give us an opinion. "His thumb has been splintered and immobilised and a decision on what happens further will be made in thplays co-host and pre-tournament favourite India in its next Group B game on Saturday.
