Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information, Public Relations and Culture, Mian Iftikhar Hussain has said his party has always struggled for the socio-economic rights of womenfolk. He further said that great Pakhtun leaders had brought their women into the national mainstream and Begum Nasim Wali Khan and Dr Gul Lalai were the live proof of it.
He was addressing a function held in connection with the International Women's Day at Nishtar Hall Peshawar on Tuesday. The function was organised by the Women Development and Culture Departments was also addressed by the ANP Provincial President Afrasiab Khattak, Minister for Women Development, Sitara Ayaz and MNA, Jamila Gilani. Afrasiab Khattak and Mian Iftikhar Hussain distributed awards among the women who played their role in the recent floods and rehabilitation of IDPs.
The minister said that the present government did not believe on victimisation of women and gender discrimination but rather it would give them their due rights and status. He added that the 51% population of the country could not be ignored, as without their active participation, the country could not make progress.
The minister maintained that present government has taken practical steps for the rights and welfare of women and give them representation in all sections. He called upon the women to equip themselves with the ornament of education and make efforts to compete with the women in developed countries.
The minister while referring to the war against terror said that they were against the injustices of the society and always voiced against it on all forums. He added, therefore, they were on the target of the terrorists and so far its 500 workers and office bearers including two MPAs were martyred and all its leadership was attacked. He asked the women to help the government in war against terror so as to make this land a peaceful place to live.
