Hundreds of industrial units have shut down during 2010-11 across the country due to load shedding, high cost of borrowing, law and order situation, outstanding liabilities to commercial banks and ongoing global recession, official sources in Ministry of Industries and Production (MoI&P) told Business Recorder.
The sources said, MoI&P had sought details of shut down units from the provincial governments along with reasons. Punjab has dispatched the list to the MoI&P whereas Khyber Pakhtunkhawa has revealed that the data of sick/closed down units will be collected at the end of 2010-11 and have reported 54 industrial units that closed down during 2009-10.
Balochistan government has provided a list for the last two years while Sindh government has not provided the requisite information yet. The list of industrial units closed down during 2010-11 in Punjab is as follows:
