Economic Co-operation Organisation (ECO) Science Foundation will be established in Pakistan and the first meeting of the board of Trustees of the Foundation will be held in Islamabad on April 12, which will render the Foundation functional. This was announced by Mohammad Yahya Maroofi Secretary General (ECO) on Wednesday during his visit to Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF) along with a delegation.
Addressing on this occasion, Secretary General said that there is no shortage of resources and money but problem is lack of proper management and handling, like water, whose billions of gallons are being wasted every year. He said that the PSF expertise would be greatly useful for ECO member States. He emphasised on the maximum use of indigenous resources for socio economic development of ECO Member states.
The Secretary General, ECO appreciated the overall strength of the Pakistan in the field of Science and Technology and expertise of PSF in the field of research funding and science popularisation. Engineer Shehryar Khan Joint Technical Advisor Ministry of Science and Technology gave a presentation about the Ministry of Science and Technology, its attached departments/subsidiary organisation highlighting their functions and achievements.
He said that the MoST is trying to make best possible use of indigenous scientific and technological research and development for socio economic development of the country. Chairman PSF Dr Manzoor H Soomro gave a presentation of Pakistan Science Foundation explaining its statutory functions, achievements, ongoing national and international programs and futures plans. PSF major objective is to promote S&T research for socio economic development of the country. It is providing a bridge between researchers at the universities/R&D organisation and the industry.
