Incidents of new-borns' kidnapping are rapidly increasing in the government hospitals of the metropolis as in another incident a baby-boy was abducted from Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) on Tuesday. This was the third incident during the last 12 months when a newborn baby has been kidnapped from CHK.
SP Qamar Jasqani blamed improper security arrangements at the government hospitals for the increasing incidents of new-borns' kidnapping in the city. According to him, the kidnappers commit such crimes under the guise of welfare work. He added that the authorities concerned are striving to ensure proper security at the government hospitals to avert such incidents in future.
According to details, Jamila wife of Ghulam Fareed, who is the resident of Madina Colony, Hub, gave birth to a baby-boy through operation at CHK on Tuesday morning. At around 8pm a lady wearing a yashmak took her baby on the pretext of vaccination and did not come back, police said. They said the parents of the newborn after waiting for hours approached the management of the hospital but to no avail.
Later, the father of the newborn Ghulam Fareed registered a case no 80/11 against unknown culprits in the Edigah police station. Meanwhile, Ghulam Hussain Shah, an investigation officer of this case, said this was the third such incident in a year. He said that lack of security arrangements is encouraging kidnappers to run their illicit activity especially in the government hospitals. According to him the involvement of paramedical staff in this incident could not be ruled out.
