POL prices' hike challenged

The recent increase in petroleum prices has been challenged before Lahore High Court (LHC). A bar member Mateenul Haq Chaudhry filed this civil miscellaneous application filed into an already main petition on the matter submitted that the impugned notification regarding increase in POL prices issued by federal government was unlawful, ineffective and ultra vires over the rights of citizens of Pakistan.
He said the act of the respondents was cruelty and tyranny on the already crushed and downtrodden people of Pakistan. Petitioner, therefore, prayed to the court to direct the respondents to withdraw the impugned notification. He also requested to the court to issue status quo order in the interest of public at large.
