Chairperson National Assembly's Standing Committee on Finance Fauzia Wahab reiterated her stance regarding Raymond Davis, saying that Raymond Davis was a diplomat and he would be treated in accordance with Vienna Convention and should be handed over to the US.
"Although shooting two Pakistanis to death in Lahore by Davis is blameworthy, but he enjoys diplomatic immunity and exemption from the court proceeding," Fauzia Wahab said while talking to media after attending an open discussion on imposition of Reformed General Sales Tax (RGST) organised by Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) here on Tuesday.
Fauzia who was ousted from the slot of Secretary Information of ruling PPP for her statement on Raymond Davis, said as per Vienna Convention Pakistan cannot bring Raymond Davis in the court for trial. "If Pakistan wants to lodge case against Raymond case, it has moved American court." "It is my personal opinion and statement," Fauzia said, adding, "This is not stance Pakistan Peoples Party leadership or of the PPP-led coalition Government."
"Media should not highlight one side of the story," she said, adding that her statement was hijacked and she was not given chance to give the second side of the story that her statement was not party statement. She rejected the notion of mixing the cases of Dr Aafia Siddiqui with Raymond Davis, saying that Dr Aafia Siddiqui was a US citizen and possesses an American passport that is why she was tried in a US court and was sentenced by the US court. She said that refusal of the US to handover Dr Aafia to Pakistan is their own decision, but the talks are continuing with the US Administration on Raymand Davis issue.
