Treason case against Musharraf: LHC expresses displeasure over non-submission of reply

The Lahore High Court (LHC) here Thursday expressed its displeasure over non-submission of reply by federal government in a petition seeking registration of high treason case against Pervez Musharraf. The court observed that several months had been passed but federal government had yet not furnished its reply. The court giving last chance to the government directed to submit reply within next 10 days.
On Thursday a Deputy Attorney General appeared before the court and sought time to file reply. The counsel for the petitioners' opposing the request submitted that the Attorney playing tactics to delay the proceedings in the case. The court is hearing the petition filed by Rana Ilamuddin Advocate who levelled 15 allegations of different nature against the former military dictator.
The lawyer alleged that the former army chief had dissolved an elected parliament without "any cogent reasons ". Ghazi submitted that General (Retd) Musharraf prevented judges of the Supreme Court and four High Courts from performing their duties and also detained Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry along with his children.
Accusing General (Retd) Musharraf of killing thousands of Hafiz-e-Quran girls and boys during the Jamia Hafsa operation in Islamabad, the lawyer said that the former president had also ordered the killing of a Nawab Akbar Bugti. He submitted that Musharraf had joined the US war after the 9/11 incident without the nation's consent and handed over innocent citizens from the Muslim country to America. According to Ghazi, General (Retd) Musharraf also made plans to kill Benazir Bhutto. The petitioner prayed to the court to direct the federal government to lodge a case against the former president under Article 6 of the Constitution.
