Dr Fehmida Mirza, Speaker National Assembly, has called for Brazilian collaboration in the field of agriculture, energy and trade sector for mutual benefit of both the nations. She said that Brazilian Investors should take benefit of friendly-investment policies in Pakistan. She said this while talking to Ambassador of Brazil to Pakistan Alfredo Leoni, who called on her here on Wednesday.
Fehmida Mirza said that Pakistan considers Brazil its notable friend and major trading partner in Latin America. She called for enhancing collaboration between business communities of both the countries for their mutual benefit, adding that Pakistan strongly desires to cement its ties with Brazil through people-to-people and parliamentary contacts.
She said that Pakistan could learn a lot from the massive development in Brazil. She also apprised the Ambassador about the formation of Pak-Brazil Friendship Group in National Assembly of Pakistan. The Brazilian Ambassador said that his country also attaches high importance to its relations with Pakistan and wants to further enhance them. He agreed for regular interaction between Parliaments, peoples and business communities of both the countries. He said that Brazil is an important trading partner of Pakistan with an annual trade of $400 million.
He assured that his government would extend maximum support to government of Pakistan to over come energy shortage in Pakistan specially the Ethanol production and its utilisation. He further informed that a group of Brazilian engineers would visit Pakistan for consultations for enhancing collaboration in agriculture and energy sectors.
Later a 6-member European Union delegation headed by Micheal Gahler, MP held a meeting with the Dr Fehmida Mirza and exchanged views on electoral reforms, regional and international issues and rehabilitation work in the flood-effected areas with Madam Speaker.
The Leader of the Delegation assured EU's unwavering support to the Government of Pakistan in this regard. He expressed satisfaction over existing bilateral relations between EU and Pakistan and EU and Pakistan Parliaments. He also expressed desire to enhance parliamentary and people-to-people contacts between both the parliaments. The delegation complemented Madam Speaker on constitution of Parliamentary Committee on EC.
The Speaker termed Pakistan's relations with EU, outstanding and agreed for further enhancing the bilateral parliamentary ties. She also asked for greater market excess to Pakistani products in EU markets. She said that present democratic government in Pakistan was confronting numerous challenges which need to be addressed through support of friendly countries. She also thanked EU's support during the catastrophic floods last year.-PR
