Pakistan is a leading country with a huge number of buffaloes and cattle that could transform the country into a prosperous nation of the world if we proper exploit a tremendous business potential in the dairy and livestock sector as only cheese has $62 billion business in the world and Pakistan by having elite breeds of cows and buffaloes can harness the potential effectively.
These views were expressed by the speakers of three day international seminar on "Technological and scientific aspects of dairy products with special reference to French Cheeses" here in new senate hall of the University under golden jubilee celebrations here on Monday.
Addressing the participants as chief guest French Ambassador Daniel Jouanneau said that France was the 3rd largest exporter of agricultural products and leading exporter of processed agriculture products as agriculture is a strategic sector for its economy. He said that this month France has organised an agriculture show at Paris where all kinds of production were showcased. "UAF is very much on our radar screen as are in process of getting more closed to UAF by making the UAF and Agrocamus
France ties in terms of faculty/ students and research ideas exchange" he added. He said that 500 Pakistani students were studying in various French institutes out of which more than 100 belong to UAF that reflects the sincerity and commonality of objectives between the two countries.
He described UAF one of the France's best partner in Pakistan with old and strong partnership of which Professor Dr Jean-Francois Grongnet from Agrocampus Ouest in Rennes, has been a key actor. He termed the UAF a prime part of the solution to the agricultural challenges which the country is facing through the formation of new generations of farmers and specialists in the transformation and promotion of food.
The ambassador acknowledged the role of UAF that this institution has made itself a hub under the dynamic leadership of Professor Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan for all stakeholders enables them to share their problems and ideas of solving and we would be encouraged to do more in this regard, he added.
