Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah opened the first branch of Sindh Bank at I. I. Chundrigar Road here on Saturday. Later, talking to media, he said that the bank would play an important role in the development and prosperity of small farmers in the province. Provincial ministers, senior officials and President Sindh Bank Bilal Sheikh were also present on the occasion.
"This was the long standing demand of the people of Sindh particularly small farmers. This was badly needed to support agriculture sector in the province", he added. He was of the view that Sindh should get its due share in country's economy and wealth.
Responding to a question, he said that Sindh Bank was not a property of Sindh government or him. This belonged to the people of Sindh, he noted. Shah said that Sindh Cabinet has approved the establishment of Sindh Bank and all the concerns of coalition partners in the Sindh Government were also removed. He made it clear that all the appointments in the bank were made on the basis of merit and qualification and its accounts will be duly audited and inspected every year.
