THE RUPEE: dollar moves both ways

Mixed patterns were seen on the currency market on Saturday in process of trading, dealers said. The rupee continued to fall versus dollar, down four paisa for buying at 85.40 and shed two paisa for selling at 85.44, they said.
INTERBANK MARKET RATES: At the weekend, the euro advanced, bolstered by increased expectations that the European Central Bank will raise interest rates, with further gains likely in the upcoming week given a positive technical outlook. On the charts, the euro's prospects have turned bullish in the short term, analysts said, with support clustered around $1.3250, the 61.8 percent Fibonacci retracement of the January to February rally.
OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee posted fresh gains in relation to dollar, it picked up 10 paisa for buying at 85.60 while five paisa for selling at 85.75, they added. The rupee surrendered its overnight gains against euro, losing 93 paisa for buying and selling at Rs 116.66 and Rs 117.16, they said./P>

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The Pak rupee maintained its overnight position and remained unchanged against the greenback in the local currency market on Friday.
According to the currency dealers, there was no change in the dollar's demand and supply that helped rupee stability. The dollar resumed trading at Thursday closing of Rs 85.60 and Rs 85.80, as its buying and selling rates, respectively. The dollar witnessed marginal fluctuation in its value during the day's trading but finally ended at the opening rates, the dealers said.
However, the rupee continued to remain under pressure and registered further loss against the pound sterling. The pound was ended at Rs 137.40 and Rs 138.30, as compared to previous closing of Rs 137.00 and Rs 138.00, respectively, the dealers said.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The dollar-rupee parity remained unchanged at the currency exchange establishments of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Friday.
The dollar opened at Rs 85.90 (buying) and Rs 86.20 (selling) against the last rate. It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 85.90 (buying) and Rs 86.20 (selling).
Pound Sterling opened at Rs 136.30 (buying) and Rs 136.70 (selling) against the previous rate. It did not witness any change in the evening session and closed at Rs 136.30 (buying) and Rs 136.70 (selling).
