Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Thursday summoned the Judicial Commission meeting on Saturday to consult one-year extension in term for Justice Khalil-ur-Rehman Ramday on an ad hoc basis and appointment of former Justice Rehmat Hussain Jafrey as ad hoc judge for two years.
The Commission would also recommend confirmation of nine additional judges of Sindh High Court to the parliamentary committee of judge's appointment, is part of the agenda of the meeting. The reappointment of Justices Ramday and Rehmat Hussain Jafrey as ad hoc judges of apex court would not require the parliamentary committee's approval, according to the newly amended constitutional provisions. However, the Chief Justice would have to send the proposal to president with binding effect after consulting the Judicial Commission only.
The Judicial Commission includes Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry as chairman, Justice Javed Iqbal, Justice Shakirullah Jan, Justice Tassaduq Jilani, Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk, Law Minister Babar Awan, Attorney General Maulvi Anwarul Haq and Khalid Ranjha representative of Pakistan Bar Council (PBC).
