A division bench of Lahore High Court here Tuesday granted bail to former Station House Officer, Sadar Sialkot Rana Ilyas involved in the incident of lynching of two brothers. Petitioner through his counsel submitted that he was not nominated in the case but police involved him following supplementary statements.
The petitioner said he was alleged to have failed to discharge his duties and helped committing of offence of brutal murder of two real brothers Mughees Sajjad and Muneeb Sajjad. Petitioner submitted that it was also alleged that the gory incident occurred in his presence and he failed to perform his duties. He applied for post arrest bail but special judge anti terrorism court Gujranwala dismissed the same. Later, he moved LHC, which directed the trial court to conduct speedy trial.
The trial was not likely to be concluded in near future as only 13 statements had been recorded out of 41 witnesses till now and trial court judge had also been transferred. Also, there were 28 accused in the case and cross-examination of the counsel involved would further delay the matter. After hearing arguments in detail, the bench granted bail.
