Healthy environment is pre-requisite for socio-economic development of a country, said Samina Khalid Ghurki Federal Minister for Environment. She expressed these views here on Monday while chairing a meeting after assuming the charge, as the Environment Minister in the newly-appointed cabinet. She was given a detailed briefing about the Ministry of Environment and its various functions.
Federal Minister said that Pakistan is suffering from hazardous impacts of environmental pollution that are the major threats to every sector of life. All on-going environmental projects and plans would remain continued and necessary arrangements would be made to expedite their related activities, Ghurki added.
She further said that globe is confronting extreme challenges due to climate change and environmental degradation; however, government is committed to take sustainable initiatives for healthy environment in the country. The Minister said that Environment has become a universal issue however, Pakistan is taking concrete measures to build its real image that would reflect strong concern about environmental issues. Not only individual, but collective efforts should be made to counter the menace. Government will utilise all possible resources to establish clean and green environment for present and coming generations, she added.
