The Pakistan Advertisers Society (PAS) is holding the first ever advertising awards for the industry, announced Chairman PAS, Aly Mustansir on Thursday. Speaking at the press conference at a local hotel, he said the award ceremony would take place in April this year, aiming to recognise the industry's achievement.
He said advertisement spending had been significant to the any nation's economic growth, adding that the country received Rs 28 billion spending in advertisement in 2010, which was a greater amount. "The advertisement spending in Pakistan was not greater than spending in advanced countries but the last decade had witnessed a significant increase in this field," Aly said.
He said about 20 percent growth was expected to occur in the advertisement sector in 2011, which would be much higher than the global advertisement average, Chairman SAP hoped. He said the industry was facing a number of challenges including ethnical practices, globalisation, evolving consumers, new media, and effectiveness and efficiency.
He said the whole advertisement industry was indebted to the spending of FMGC, telecommunication, banks, automobile, pharmaceutical and agriculture sectors, cumulatively contributing 75 percent to the industry's advertisement. Aly said the industry was also trying to adopt scientific methodology to improve quality and content of advertisements appeared in newspapers and on TV screens.
He also pointed out that PAS was also going towards self-regulations, but urged there should be a single code of regulations to whole industry in the country. He said 20 years ago SAP came into being and the April awards would be a new step towards its growth and whole industry.
Chairman SAP Awards Committee, Faud Chundrigar said there would be 25 main categories for the awards. The competitors will have to submit their work appeared in print and electronic media any time during January 1 and December 1 period of 2010, he said. He said awards were for category specific and not medium specific adding the last date for the submission was March 5, 2011.
The categories, Chundrigar mentioned, agriculture and related industry, automotive and transportation, banking and financial services, breakfast food and dairy, children's products and services, beverages- cold, computer and internet services providers, snacks and confectionery, construction and real estate, consumer electronics, cosmetics and personal care and hygiene, culinary, fabric care, hair care, household furnishings, household care, ice cream and desserts, packaged foods, petroleum, public services, government and CSR, soaps and hand wash, telecommunication hardware manufacturers, telecommunication services providers, and textile and fashion.
Besides, he said all other categories had been including for competition for arts, culture, media and entertainment, delivery systems (products and services), education, events and festivals, general services industry (security systems, showrooms, etc), health and fitness (fitness center, sporting goods, etc), office products and services, and retail. He said there was a jury set up for based on highly reputed persons from different sectors to assess submission and evolve results for the awards. Secretary PAS Abrar Hasan gave the vote of thanks.
