Drug Enforcement Cell (DEC) of Pakistan Customs Karachi Airport Unit recovered 2 kilograms of heroin from the possession of a Zambian lady passenger. According to details, the DEC staff, on a tip off that underground mafia had been using African lady passengers for drug trafficking, intercepted a Zambian passenger Ms Rosaria Mubanga at the International Departure Hall of the Jinnah International Airport when she came there to take Emirates Airlines Flight for Johannesburg (South Africa) via Dubai.
Her baggage comprising a large consignment of ladies adornments like plastic hairclips and elastic hair bands was subjected to thorough examination which ultimately led to the recovery of 2 kilograms of fine quality heroin that was artfully concealed in specially manufactured plastic hairclips.
Interestingly, in a bid to hoodwink the Customs staff, the drug was concealed in a part of the bulk consignment and nothing was found objectionable in the hair bands. It was mentioned that the DEC of Pakistan Customs has so far made six narcotics seizure cases where the drug was being routed to various destinations, including Thailand, Cyprus, Canada, Dhaka and Hong Kong and recovered huge quantity of heroin and hashish from different articles like textbooks, leather Jackets, suitcase and shoes etc. Consequent upon recovery and seizure of contraband narcotics, the accused lady passenger has been arrested and a prosecution case under Control of Narcotics Substances Act, 1997 has been registered against her.
