A student of Karachi University reportedly manhandled an elderly professor of Jinnah Government College here the other day. It was said that he (the student) did this to show his anger over the professor who tried to stop him from cheating during the exams.
A bad and condemnable act from the students' side but the question is why do students try to use wrong ways to pass and why the concept of right and wrong is being changed? Why are the relations between students and teachers changed? Who is behind this rift? One more question every one like SPLA, KUTS and others heavily criticise the security measures but the act of students only as deplorable.
A primary school teacher when asked said that it's because teachers spend less time with students in senior classes and stop helping or advising to smooth out their problems, which increases anger in students towards teachers. Another teacher from secondary section said that students did not respect teachers but think they were their servants as they were being paid from their fees, so when these students reached graduate or postgraduate classes with this attitude they could go to any length to show their might.
A parent of a college student said that basically it was teachers' responsibility to teach moral values to the students as they spent most of their valuable time with the teachers. If they lack moral values and concept of right and wrong it was because teachers only came and gave lectures on the required topic and left without developing a teacher-student bonding.
One more cause is politics, a senior citizen said. He said education and politics were two different issues. Unions were made to work for the welfare of their members but they were not to be influenced by any political party. Quaid-e-Azam spoke to the students' unions and called them the advance guards (Harawal Dasta) for Pakistan and gave them a cause to work for the welfare of students but not to disrespect their elders or use force against them.
But today unions are made to force their mindset or the mindset of the party they follow which make them think of themselves better than everybody else and, nobody, even a TEACHER, was not allowed to stop them from using any wrong means. The above violent reaction of the student as reported in media shows the same.
