After having announced its recipe for global economic growth through trade and investment, the British government is organising a conference in UK on Thursday for increased investment opportunities into Pakistan by encouraging UK companies.
"As part of the UK's efforts to promote investment in Pakistan, UK Trade and Investment is hosting a conference titled 'Doing Business in Pakistan' in London. Its goal to realise the potential for increased investment opportunities into Pakistan by encouraging UK companies to consider expanding their operations there," said a statement issued by the British High Commission, here on Wednesday.
Organised by the United Kingdom Trade and Investment (UKTI), the conference, aimed at realising the potential for investment opportunities in Pakistan, would be chaired by Lord Green, UK Minister for Trade and Investment. British High Commissioner to Pakistan Adam Thomson, who already had left for the conference, Wajid Shams-ul-Hasan, Pakistani High Commissioner to the UK would be amongst the speakers of the event.
A large number of UK businessmen are expected to attend the conference.
In this conference, the interested UK businessmen will have opportunity to know about the Pakistani market and the benefits they can provide for potential investors. On Wednesday, the British government had published its strategy for global economic growth that rejects protectionism and ensures greater openness to trade and investment.
The policy entails a range of actions to help secure a strong, sustainable and open economy that benefits both domestically and internationally include increased engagement within the European Union, World Trade Organisation (WTO), G20 and Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Working to finalise the Doha round of trade negotiations delivering a £110bn boost per year to the global economy - 2011 is the make or break year, working with partners to help develop ideas for strengthening the WTO, and address the shifting challenges of global trade and investment.
In order to enable the developing countries to benefit from trade and investment, the strategy suggests working with developing countries to ensure that global trade rules support their needs, promoting greater market access for least developed countries and implementing ambitious bilateral aid programmes that promote trade and regional integration, particularly in Africa, where the UK is launching an Africa Free Trade Initiative as salient features.
