Former Foreign Minister Khursheed Mehmood Kasuri has said that the political leadership of both India and Pakistan would have to demonstrate courage to resolve their regional issues by holding bilateral talks this year.
Talking to Radio Pakistan, Kasuri welcomed the statements issued by foreign secretaries of India and Pakistan at the end of their meeting in Thimphu but said the two sides have failed to announce date for the meeting between foreign ministers of the two countries.
Ruling out progress on any issue until negotiations between foreign ministers of the two countries, he added bureaucracy of both the countries hesitate in taking initiative because of their training of not taking any risk. Khursheed Kasuri said Pakistan is also facing terrorism and Indian leadership should keep in mind that suspension of talks would be a victory of the hard-liners present in both the countries.
To a question, he said Mumbai attacks and Samjhota Express tragedy were perpetrated by the hard-liners but the political leadership should take step for resumption of talks for welfare of their public. To another question, Khursheed Kasuri said media of both the countries create sensitivities after any incident, which is not a suitable thing. He added some media groups are fulfilling their responsibilities in a good manner by behaving in a responsible manner but other media groups should also avoid creating sensitivities.
