TORONTO: Canada's main stock index rose on Thursday as higher oil prices boosted energy shares, while heavyweight financial stocks also gained ground.
The Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX composite index was up 21.72 points, or 0.14 percent, at 16,095.30, shortly after the open. Eight of the index's 10 main groups gained.
