PFUJ condoles death

Published December 14, 2010 Updated December 14, 2010 12:00am

Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has expressed deep grief and sorrow over the sad demise of one of the founders of PFUJ and senior-most journalist of the country, M A Zuberi, who was the Editor-in-Chief of the country's leading financial daily, Business Recorder and patron-in-chief of Aaj News, and was also the founder of Karachi Press Club (KPC).
In a condolence massage, PFUJ President Pervaiz Shaukat, and Secretary-General Shamsul Islam Naz, prayed to Almighty Allah to shower his countless blessings upon the departed soul and grant courage and fortitude to the members of the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss.
Paying rich tributes to the contribution and services of deceased M A Zuberi for promotion of media, they said that he entered the field of journalism under the command of Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah in Dawn, which was then being edited by the top journalist of the sub-continent, Altaf Husain.
He reached Karachi on August 9, five days before independence, personally carrying onboard plane a Dawn's Independence Day supplement printed in Delhi, since Delhi staff had no idea of printing facilities available in Karachi. He was the paper's specialist writer on economic and financial subjects in early years of Karachi Dawn. He was famous for his abilities as an economic analyst and commentator.
In 1995, KUJ honoured M.A Zuberi along with Late M A Shakoor, late Ahmed Ali Khan, late Hamid Zuberi, late Mr Ishtiaq Azhar and other founders of PFUJ and 100 other journalists who completed 25 years as KUJ members. He was saddened by the death of a number of colleagues, Qazi Abrar Siddiqui, Zamiruddin Ahmed, Ghulam Ahmed, Z S Daver, Zamir Niazi, Abdul Hamid Zubairi, Ahmad Ali Khan, and M Abul Akhyar. Late Zuberi was also among the founders PFUJ which was formed on August 2, 1950. The PFUJ leaders said that his services and contribution for journalism, freedom of speech, press and PFUJ would be long remembered.-PR
