Education antidote to all ills: Rajwana

LAHORE: Punjab Governor Malik Muhammad Rafique Rajwana has said that education enables nations to grapple with all challenges and those equipped with education never face decline in neither history.

Addressing the 126th Convocation of Punjab University at Faisal Auditorium here on Monday, he said the nations which make their mission and targets an integral part of their lives never fail. Punjab University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Zafar Mueen Nasir, Mayor Lahore Col (R) Mubashar Javed, Controller Examinations Prof Dr Shahid Munir, Registrar Dr Muhammad Khalid Khan, deans of faculties, heads of departments, senior faculty, officials and a large number of students and their parents were present on the occasion.

The governor said that better quality of education would improve the ranking of the universities which would raise the worth of our degrees internationally. He said he was concerned about improving the standard and quality of education at all universities as the chancellor.

Rajwana said educated youth should take part in politics as the country needed sensible and wise politicians, adding that the current age was the era of research, technology and specialization. He stressed the need to introduce measures which would help improve ranking of our universities.

The governor said all political parties and political leaders were true patriots, adding that they may nurture difference of opinion, but there was complete agreement on a strong democracy, parliament and economy in the country. He said all political forces were unanimous that constitutional institutions should work within their constitutional limits. He said that derailing government was not in the interest of the country.

Rajwana said young students were the asset of Pakistan, adding that they should serve masses after entering professional life. He urged the distinction holder students to prove through their conduct in the practical life that they deserved the medals. He called upon female students not to sit idle at their homes, adding that girls must play their role in the progress and prosperity of the country.

Speaking on the occasion, PU VC Prof Dr Zafar Moeen Nasir said that the administration had taken several initiatives in a very limited period of time to place the university among the best universities of the world by promotion of research culture on campus.

He said that the administration had reinstated and activated Faculty of Health Sciences and students would be admitted to the said faculty very soon.

Later, the Punjab governor gave away 148 medals to distinction holders and bestowed degrees on 176 undergraduate and 275 Masters students.
