Federal Minister for Interior, Rehman Malik has ultimately retired as Additional Director General of the Federal Intelligence Agency (FIA) from where he was sacked in 1996, as President Zardari signed the summary sent to him by Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani.
After receiving the summary from the Prime Minister Secretariat, President Zardari gave final nod to issue a notification converting the ouster of Rehman Malik into his retirement from services. Gilani received a summary from the Law Ministry and after giving approval, sent a proposal to President Zardari to convert the ouster of Rehman Malik into his retirement, sources in the Interior Ministry told Business Recorder on Tuesday.
They said the Law Ministry had sent summary to Gilani under section 23 of the Civil Servants Act. They said according to the summary, Rehman Malik was dismissed from his service as Director General of the FIA on political grounds in 1996, recommending that removal from office should be turned into retirement. A notification has also been issued in this regard, sources said.
