Chief Minister Punjab, Mohammad Shahbaz Sharif, has given approval of the establishment of Institute of Neuro Sciences at Lahore General Hospital. It would be a 500 bedded hospital where state of the art research and treatment facilities would be available with a cost of Rs 3.5 billion.
This was disclosed by the Principal, Postgraduate Medical Institute, Professor Dr Nazeer Ahmad while addressing inaugural ceremony of academic session of 2009-2010 at the PGMI Auditorium, here Thursday.
He informed that more than 300 doctors from all over the country including Azad Kashmir, Northern Areas as well as from foreign countries like Iran, Afghanistan, Sumalia, Srilanka, Jordan had got admission in diploma and degree classes in more than 60 different disciplines of medical sciences, that was a proof of confidence on the international standard of education in the institution.
He said that PGMI catering the needs of specialist doctors in the DHQs and THQs hospitals, but also providing medical teachers to the government as well as private medical colleges. Professor Nazeer further said that the present government was paying a special attention on the up-gradation of medical education besides providing best treatment facilities in the hospitals.
He urged upon the student doctors of PGMI to work hard and get education with full devotion and professional dedication and with the spirit of humanitarian services. Former Principal KEMU, Professor Bashir Ahmad, who was the pioneer project director of PGMI in 1974, also addressed the inaugural ceremony and appreciated the achievements of PGMI. A large number of faculty members, doctors besides, EDO (H) Dr Fayyaz Ranjha, MS Mayo Hospital Dr Zahid Pervez and the students attended the function.
