Senate body seeks corruption cases details from FIA

 ISLAMABAD: The Senate's Standing Committee on Interior directed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Saturday to submit details regarding cases pertaining to corruption in various departments being probed by it.

The Committee expressed annoyance over the absence of high officials of Ministry of Interior and FIA at the meeting, which was held with Talha Mahmood in the chair, to discuss important cases regarding corruption in the Ministry of Health. A briefing was also scheduled by the FIA regarding inquiries into corruption and embezzlement cases of Pakistan State Oil, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Ltd, Capital Development Authority, Federal Board of Revenue, Pakistan International Airlines, National Data Registration Authority and Immigration and Passport Office.

The meeting, which was also attended by Senators Nayyar Hussain Bukhari, Haji Adeel, Tahir Hussain Mashhadi, Abuld Malik Baloch, Almas Perveen and Gulshan Saeed, suspended the proceedings on the agenda.

The Committee members also expressed dissatisfaction over FIA's performance in to rooting out the menace of corruption from various institutions and said that even cases of minor nature were put before the committee without any proper record.

They alleged that politicians had been involved in various corruption cases and no step was taken against bureaucracy in any case . Moreover, cases against bureaucrats remained pending for years.

The Committee directed the FIA to produce the details about all the  corruption cases and inquiries in the next meeting.

Chairman of the Committee Senator Talha said that there was huge a scam in the Ministry of Health and directed the FIA officials to come prepared in next meeting with all relevant details.
