Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to develop livestock sector

imagaaaaPESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Livestock and Cooperatives, Haji Hidayatullah Khan has said that the development of livestock on modern lines could help the country not only in earning of foreign exchange and also help alleviate poverty.

Addressing the concluding session of an international seminar titled Dairy Science Park here at Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Agricultural University, Peshawar, he said that the provincial government is making all out efforts in this regard.

The provincial minister said that besides performing the responsibility of research and extension, the Department of Livestock is also extending support in the promotion of dairy farming. In this connection, he particularly referred to the establishment of veterinary clinics in different parts of the province while measures were also on the increase in the production of livestock in the province.

The livestock sector, he said had played important role in the development of agriculture in Pakistan and government is utilizing all available resources for its development.

He said that developed countries of the world are equipping their farmers with modern science and technical education about the sector for utilization in increasing the production. Therefore, he said the provincial government is also extending facilities to farmers for feeding their cattle on scientific rules.

The provincial minister said that first time in the history of the province a Poultry Research Institute and Veterinary Research Institute have been established at Jabba, Mansehra, while research institute for wild cattle is established at Kohat and several other research stations have also been established for protection and development of livestock.

He said that measures have also been taken for construction of new veterinary hospitals, up-gradation of dispensaries and establishment of mobile veterinary clinics in the province.

Earlier, Dean Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Professor, Dr Mohammad Subhan Qureshi highlighted the purposes and objectives of the workshop.
