RAWALPINDI: The 11th Convocation of the Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) was held on Wednesday at the Jinnah Convention Center Islamabad to commemorate the academic accomplishments of its students.
Students were awarded gold and Silver medals for their outstanding achievements in their academic career.
Chancellor, Fatima Jinnah Women University Governor Punjab, Sardar Muhammad Latif Khosa was chief guest on the occasion who conferred degrees to 1023 students of Masters and undergraduate programmes.
He also addressed the gathering and called upon the students to abreast with the latest scientific knowledge and know-how to meet the future challenges. He lauded the University's achievements in academic and extra-curricula activities.
Sardar Muhammad Latif Khosa along with the Vice Chancellor, FJWU, Prof. Dr. Samina Amin Qadir awarded 30 Gold and 29 Silver medals to various students from each department to acknowledge their outstanding performance.
Amna Asghar of Behavioral Sciences Department, Ms. Anum Irfan of Masters in Business Administration Department, Ms.Sahar Riaz of Communication Sciences, Ms. Ayesha Siddique of Computer Sciences Department, Ms. Khalida Yasmin of Defence and Diplomatic Studies, Ms. Wajiha Qamar of Economics, Ms.Um-ul-Baneen of Education Department, Ms. Maria Kafeel of English Department, Ms. Zainab Bashir of Environmental Sciences, Ms. Rameesa Afzal of Fine Arts Department, Ms. Madiha Ikram of Gender Studies, Ms. Salma of Islamic Studies, Ms. Freeha Ihsan of Masters Public Administration received the gold medals in Masters Programme.
Whereas, Ms. Anum Arshad of Behavioral Sciences Department, Ms. Anam Sarah of Masters in Business Administration Department, Ms. Rabael Hamza and Samreen Asghar of Communication Sciences, Ms. Sehrish Ajmal of Computer Sciences Department, Ms. Mehvish Malik of Defence and Diplomatic Studies, Ms. Nimra Safdar of Economics, Ms. Samia Jawaid of Education Department, Ms. Amina Farman Ali of English Department, Ms. Muntaha Habib of Environmental Sciences, Ms. Hira Farooq of Fine Arts Department, Ms. Anam Iftikhar of Gender Studies, Ms. Arifa Siddiqui of Islamic Studies, Ms. Sadaf Hameed of Masters Public Administration, Ms. Zainab Sher of Computer Arts, Ms. Rishi Naeem of Mathematics Department and Ms. Zara Waheed of Software Engineering received the gold medals in Masters Programme.
Sardar Muhammad Latif Khosa congratulated the students and their parents on their splendid success and said that "Higher education opens unlimited vistas and possibilities of success and growth. The foremost responsibility of the universities is to produce well-informed, motivated and cultured citizens for the nation."
However, Pakistani universities have to play a very positive role in tapping the intellect and creating awareness among its students and scholars to help translate the potential for growth and development in Pakistan into reality. "We have to work together to take our state forward along the path of inclusive growth and development through intellectual and scientific know-how", he added.
He acknowledged the dedication shown by the Vice Chancellor and her well-qualified team in achieving goals of life-time endeavor by offering quality education to more than 5000 students who are asset to this institution and to the people.
FJWU has been making impressive strides in this endeavour through participation in curricular and co-curricular projects.
He congratulated the students who participated in the NUST-Prime Minister's Entrepreneurial Challenge and were awarded a cheque of Rupees 100,000 by Prime Minister, Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani.
Earlier, in her welcome address the Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Samina Amin Qadir highlighted the University's consistent efforts to upgrade the quality education and provide best facilities to the students. Chancellor FJWU and Governor Punjab for his presence in the convocation.
