Brazil fuel, lubricant imports surge 57pc in July

RIO DE JANEIRO: Brazil's fuel and lubricant imports shot up 57.3 percent in July from the same month in 2016 to $1.522 billion, government data showed on Tuesday.

Gasoline imports rose 9.3 percent to $115 million, the trade ministry data showed.

The rise came after Petroleo Brasileiro made its diesel and gasoline pricing scheme more flexible in June in an effort to regain market share lost to other companies that were boosting imports to Brazil.
