United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) will provide US $2.4 million for Population Welfare Programme during 2009. The signing ceremony for the implementation of the Annual Work Plan (AWP) 2009 between Ministry of Population and UNFPA was held here on Thursday. The Country representative of UNFPA Danial B Baker and Ministry of Population Welfare Secretary Nayyar Agha signed the AWP.
According to the agreement Federal Minister for Population Welfare Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan has said that the goal of the UNFPA Programme is to improve the reproductive health status to the people of Pakistan and leading towards population stabilisation. The activities of the said plan would be jointly implemented by Ministry of Population Welfare, Provincial Population Welfare Departments and UNFPA at federal, provincial and district levels.
Nayyar Agha explained about the AWP 2009 and told that this fund will be utilised for implementation of reproductive health and family planning activities throughout Pakistan during 2009. The AWP is in line with MDGs and International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) objectives. The major activities of Annual Plan 2009 comprise of training, integrated quality primary health care, family planning services through mobile service units in remote areas and community awareness, procurement of contraceptives, improved management system for delivery programme, support to demographic and population studies. -PR
