ISLAMABAD: Ministry of Religious Affairs will pay Rs. 200,000 as compensation to the heirs of each pilgrim, who died during the recent Hajj in Saudi Arabia.
According to the information as many as 105 Pakistani pilgrims have died in Saudi Arabia due to natural causes since October 1 after reaching the Holy Land to perform the religious obligation.
"The compensation will be applicable to all pilgrims whether they went under the government or private schemes," official sources at the Ministry of Religious Affairs told APP here on Thursday.
This year, around 180,000 pilgrims were sent to Saudi Arabia for Hajj under the government and private schemes.
The cash compensation will be given from the fund set up under "Hujjaj Mohafiz Scheme" based on the concept of "Takaful" in which each pilgrim contributed Rs. 400 non-refundable.
Besides, Rs.50,000 to Rs.100,000 will be paid to Hujjaj in case they suffered any serious injury or disability, the sources said.
