Police vigilant to thwart any terrorist act: Wassan
KARACHI: Karachi is constantly under the threat of terrorism and the police are vigilant to thwart any terrorist act to sabotage the peaceful environment of the city, Sindh Home Minister Manzoor Hussain Wassan said here on Thursday.
"Policemen are sacrificing their lives in the line of duty," he said while talking to newsmen after offering funeral prayers at Police Lines Garden of two policemen, who were killed in an encounter with alleged terrorists late on Wednesday night in Clifton area.
He said the police successfully thwarted a major act of terrorism through intelligence as guns, suicide jackets and ammunition were recovered after killing of the five alleged terrorists.
Wassan said that the police also arrested two accused with the help of the registration plate of the vehicle used by the terrorists, who were being interrogated.
He said that more suspects had been arrested from Hyderabad and Karachi in this connection.
The funeral of martyred ploicemen was also attended by senior police officials, including Additional IG Falak Khurshid, Additional IG Karachi Ghulam Shabir Shaikh.
