ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan said on Wednesday that there was no substance in rumours about the differences between civil and military leaderships.
Replying to questions of newsmen during in a briefing after the Federal Cabinet meeting here, the Information Minister categorically dispelled the impression of divergence between the elected leadership and the military.
"There is complete harmony and civil and military leaderships are on the same page on all national issues," she said and added that impression of difference was totally incorrect.
About Tuesday's meeting between President Asif Ali Zardari and Chief of the Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, she said that whenever the top civil and military leaders meet, they discuss issues related to national interest and deliberate over matters for further strengthening of institutions in the country.
She said that a categorical denial had already been issued about the media reports in this regard. She, however, made it clear that the issues discussed in the meeting between the President and the Army Chief could not be shared with the media as these are security related issues.
About summoning of Pakistan's Ambassador to the United States Hussain Haqqani to Islamabad, she said that ambassadors were summoned now and then and it was a matter of routine.
"Our relations with the United States have witnessed many ups and downs in the recent past and he has been summoned to discuss all issues related to bilateral ties," the minister said.
To a question about the rallies of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, she said that the party was ruling the Punjab province, which has over 60 percent of the country's population. It should first put its own house in order and make Punjab a role model for other provinces, she added.
