'Govt providing relief to rain-hit people'

HYDERABAD: Director General Health Services Sindh has said that government remains busy in providing health facilities to hundreds of thousands of people affected due to heavy monsoon rains in Sindh.

He informed that up till now 153,862,1 patients have been treated in 33 fixed and 22 mobile medical camps by 235 doctors/paramedical staff.

He further informed in his report issued to this office that most of the people in the affected areas are suffering in skin, diarrhoea diseases and Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI). He informed that 246,431 patients of skin diseases, 191,537 patients of diarrhoea, 276,500 patients of ARI, 54,205 patients of dysentery, 75,050 patients of eye infection and 895 patients of snakebite were treated. He also informed that 6,885 patients' malaria tests were positive and 293,597 people were suspected of malaria.

He said that till November 01, 2011 as many as 540 people got injured and 120 died in rain-related incidents in Sindh. He said that anti malaria spray and fumigation as well as immunisation of children and pregnant women are also being carried out.
