MOHAMMAD BILAL TAHIR
KARACHI: Many pedestrian bridges built in the city two years back are now in a shabby condition due to what sources said negligence of the transport and communication department of the City District Government.
Transport and Communication (T&C) Department of the CDGK had built 110 pedestrians bridges in the city mainly at bus stops in the year 2009 to facilitate the citizens. Sources told that the concerned department had not carried out any kind of maintenance and repairing work of the bridges during the last two years.
One of the bridges at main Kala Board bus stop in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Block 11 has been left with no safety iron rods besides it has developed many holes, posing threats to safety of the users.
Similarly, another one built at main National Stadium Road, just opposite to Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) Building at Hassan Square is in run-down condition, as its stairs are broken, which has already resulted in injuries to many children and women.
