Kenyan tea prices were mixed at this week's auction, with some grades firming due to improved quality, traders said on Wednesday. The Mombasa-based Africa Tea Brokers (ATB) said 120,461 packages were offered for sale, with 10,202 packages unsold. At the previous sale, 130,030 packages were offered with 9,860 unsold.
"There was fair general demand for the...packages on offer, which opened firm but eased as the sale progressed, with some lines remaining unsold," the ATB said. Best Broken Pekoe Ones sold at $2.34-$2.60 per kg compared with $2.35-$3.00 per kg at last week's sale.
Best Pekoe Fanning Ones fetched $1.75-$2.40 per kg compared with the previous auction's $1.78-$2.21 per kg. ATB said that Russia, Kazakhstan and the Egyptian Packers bought more than at last week's sale, as did Britain and Sudan.
