All major rivers were flowing normal except River Kabul, which was in medium to high flood at Warsak and Nowshera. Some of the River Kabul''s tributaries were also in very high flood. Chairman, Federal Flood Commission, IB Sheikh said this while briefing the meeting, which was presided over by Minister for Water and Power Liaquat Ali Jatoi here on Tuesday.
The meeting reviewed the prevalent flood situation in the country created after recent rains. The meeting was informed about the latest position relating to river flows and flood situation in the country.
The Federal Flood Commission Chairman apprised the meeting that both Tarbela and Mangla reservoirs had enough capacity to store water from heavy rain spells in their respective upstream catchment areas in case any monsoon activity was generated from the Bay of Bengal. The meeting reviewed the situation as per current forecast by Pakistan Meteorological Department for monsoon rains this year especially in Sindh and Balochistan.
The meeting was also informed about the latest positions relating to Mirani and Hub dams besides the present inundation in various areas in both provinces. The minister informed the meeting of his recent visit to flood-affected areas in Sindh and directed provincial irrigation authorities to ensure early plugging of breaches in Dhori Distributary in Qamber-Shahdadkot District.
He also directed the Provincial Relief Departments of Sindh and Balochistan for ensuring provision of all relief goods to the affected people in coordination with federal government.
