The Standing Committee of National Assembly on Information Technology and Telecommunication on Tuesday expressed its dissatisfaction over the poor performance of PTCL after its privatisation.
The Committee, which met under the Chairmanship of Muhammad Tahir Shah, MNA in the Parliament House recommended that the Ministry should ensure improvement in its performance as most of its connections remained out of order and performance was also decreasing day by day. The meeting also discussed the performance of Pakistan Soft Export Board (PSEB) and highly appreciated the achievement made by PSEB during the recent years.
It, however, recommended that PSEB may launch a strong media campaign about its internships and training programmes introduced for students from time to time so that students from all over the country could apply and get benefit from it.
While discussing the performance of PTCL after its privatisation, Secretary, Information Technology (IT) and Telecommunication, Farrakh Qayum admitted that the performance of PTCL had been declined due to mobile substitution and poor management.
He assured that the new management would overcome all the problems shortly. He also informed that PTCL was planning to offer various incentives and facilities to increase its subscribers by providing better facilities. Later, PSEB Managing Director, Yousuf Hussain, briefly apprised the Committee about the objectives and scope of PSEB activities.
The meeting was attended by MNAs Rao Muhammad Ajmal Khan, Sahibzada Muhammad Mahboob Sultan, Maulana Ahmad Ghafoor, Rafique Ahmad Jamali, Sardar Tafail Ahmad Khan, Chaudhry Muhammad Saeed Virk, Mir Aijaz Hussain Jakhrani, Ghulam Ali Nizamani, Maulan Shah Abdul Aziz, Balqees Saif, Dr Nasim Afridi and Raja Muhammad Asad Khan. Senior officials from the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication and PSEB also attended the meeting.
