The Central Board of Revenue (CBR), for the first time in the history of Pakistan, is launching the web-based e-filing of documents and e-payments of taxes from July 4 as a pilot project.
CBR officials told Business Recorder on Monday that to further facilitate the taxpayers in filing their returns in the shortest possible time, a web-based system had been prepared that would be launched as pilot project at Large Taxpayers Unit (LTU) Karachi on Wednesday.
Officials said that the electronic filing program has built-in system of checks, errors and necessary information, increasing the accuracy of return and reducing the need for corresponding with the CBR to clarify errors or omissions.
The program provides half the time in issuance of refunds electronically as compared to manual issuance of refunds, they said.
The system has removed any ambiguity regarding acceptance of returns, they said, adding that once the electronically filed return is accepted for processing, the CBR electronically acknowledges receipt of the return.
Taxpayers can pay electronically, using a credit card, electronic funds withdrawal or through online bank account, officials said. Under this system the taxpayer uses secured user ID and PIN Code for login to get welcome page showing list of all taxes along with list of unregistered clients, vendors or employees.
The taxpayer can adds/creates his/her list of vendors/clients/ employees by simple uploading by preformatted MS Excel or create it one by one by inputting. The taxpayer can also view the details of his/her clients/vendors/employees. Further, the taxpayer may add file of his/her created profiles by file upload.
Officials said that taxpayer can pay tax electronically under "electronic payment gateway" with secured login with ID and PIN code issued by his banker. In this system multiple options and choices of banks have been given to taxpayers for payment of taxes.
The payment of tax automatically generates receipt of payment of tax as evidence of tax paid. However, under this pilot project choices are restricted with National Bank of Pakistan and State Bank of Pakistan but later it would be made open with any bank account from anywhere. In this system two options ie 'overall view' and 'status alert' have been provided to view the status of payment of taxes.
A facility of 'messaging centre' is available where the use can compose and send messages directly to CBR and receive messages in return This program also enables the user to issue system generated tax deduction certificate for employee/vendor whose tax withhold and deposited in government accounts.
Taxpayer may send request for issuance of exemption certificate to the concerned commissioner and get exemption certificate electronically by saving time and energy, officials said.
