The City District Government Rawalpindi (CDGR) has decided to lodge attempt to murder FIR against the advertisers and house-owners who resist the operation for removal of billboards from rooftops in Rawalpindi city and Cantonment area.
This was decided in a high-level meeting of the district administration held in the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) with City District Nazim Raja Javed Ikhlas in chair. Station Commander Rawalpindi Cantonment Area, Brigadier Sajjad, EDO Revenue, EDO Finance and Planning and EDO Infrastructure and Maintenance also attended the meeting.
It was decided in the meeting that a massive operation would be launched from July 1 (today) to remove all giant billboards from the rooftops immediately. A special committee consisting of EDO Revenue, EDO Finance and Planning, was constituted to hold a comprehensive survey of the billboards erected on rooftops in Rawalpindi city and cantonment area. The committee was asked to submit its report within 24 hours in order to launch operation to remove the billboards.
Police and other law-enforcement agencies were put on alert to meet any untoward situation during the operation. Addressing the meeting, the City District Nazim said the government would not allow anyone to put the public life at risk for monetary gains. These billboards caused havoc in Karachi during the recent rains in the shape of men material loss.
He said all these boards were erected in violation of the building bylaws and the government would not allow these boards anymore. "We will file attempt to murder case against the advertiser and house owner if they show any resistance", said Ikhlas.
