Tameer-i-Wattan Party Chairman Lieutenant General Faiz Ali Chasti (Retd) has demanded complete accountability of all military generals, judges and politicians since 1947 without favouritism. He said there was no chance that conditions in the country would normalise.
Addressing a press conference here at local hotel on Tuesday he said that fair, free and impartial general elections were not possible unless General Musharraf quit the office of the Chief of Army Staff and an independent chief election commissioner were appointed.
Faiz Ali condemned President Pervez Musharraf's plan of bypassing the democratic process to get re-elected by the sitting parliament before general elections.
He said that Tameer-i-Wattan would participate in the forthcoming general elections with full zeal. He said equality was a manifesto of his party and they would participate in the election on this basis.
He further said that country was facing severe political and economic crises. "Pakistan needs legitimate parliamentary and presidential elections to get back on the path to genuine democratic rule", he added.
He claimed that General Zia-ul -Haq did not act upon my advice that is why he had to face hot water. "I was strongly opposing the decision to give lands to the retired army officers but he paid no heed to my words", he added.
