A National Training Bureau was planned to be set up in Islamabad to impart highly vocational training to the skilled labour which is in great demand in foreign countries. The Bureau was to be set up with huge foreign assistance by a number of European countries and as a matter of fact work on it was also started in the 1990s.
There are reports of the useful project either being dropped as it has not been completed for years together or the donors' funding being returned by the Labour Ministry officials. Since there is dire need for skilled labour both within the country and abroad, the National Training Bureau should be completed and made fully functional instead of its being closed rather prematurely.
In view of the importance of the project, an appeal is hereby made to President General Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz to get the National Training Bureau project being re-evaluated, retained if found feasible and vocational training programmes started in the right earnest.
If its location in Islamabad is not considered suitable for one reason or the other, then it should be shifted to Balochistan province where lot of major developmental activities are in progress and people of the province should be imparted training in different vocations to enable them to earn good wages and also contribute to the economic development and progress of their province.
Kind response to this appeal by the President and the Prime Minister would save a useful vocational training institution from going down the drain due to lack of interest on the part of the Labour Ministry officials concerned.
