Why only Islam?

Published June 24, 2007 Updated June 24, 2007 12:00am

Another anti-Islam statement has come and to my surprise, it is not from west but from neighbour India. It has been learnt that Pratibha Patil, nominee for presidential election, urged Muslim women in India to stop wearing veils, an order given by Almighty Allah, labelling the practice as "out-dated".
She justified her view by claiming that women started using veils in India in 16th century to save themselves from Mughal invaders and that now it is time to drop the practice...
I ask her who gave her authority to advice Muslim women what to do and what not to do in their very personal religious matter? If India claims to be a "secular and modern state", why it is very much concerned with very personal religious affairs... and why only of Muslims?
It is often observed that many countries find Islam seems to be only easy target to criticise, comment and opine on. I put a question in front of whole world, "show us a single statement passed by any Muslim country regarding religious affairs of any other nation? Had any of the Muslim countries imposed or tried to impose any law controversial to any religion's teachings?
Then why it is only with Islam that everyone feels "no problem" in humiliating it, commenting on its teachings, imposing controversial laws, and opting offensive opinions? Then how some so-called modern nations of the world see their acts of interfering in personal matters of Muslim? What grounds do they have to justify their behaviour's??
As Ms Patil said by encouraging Muslim women to leave such practices behind as they are progressing in every field, does it require that if one progresses it should stop following religion, particularly Islam, as France also justified its ban on veil citing similar excuses. I claim that not all non-Muslim countries give freedom to Muslim and always seek to tighten the noose around Muslims by hook or by crooks some so-called.
