Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has said that Pakistan Peoples Party and PML- N leadership is engaged in daydreaming about power disregarding the fact that it is for the people to decide which political party and leader deserve their votes at the time of general elections.
He was addressing the inaugural ceremony of Social Security Hospital at Bara Dari Road Shahdara, here on Wednesday. PML leader Mian Muhammad Azhar, Provincial Minister for Labour and Human Resource Rana Qasim Noon, District Nazim Lahore Mian Amir Mahmood, Assembly Members and a large number of people were present on the occasion.
He said that Pakistan Muslim League government is taking practical measures for the welfare and uplift of the poor people and workers and a record amount of Rs 2.63 billion has been allocated for the provision of health and educational facilities to workers.
He averred that the capacity of social security hospitals has been increased by 1,450 beds, which will benefit 4.3 million workers and poor families. He said that keys of 871 houses would be handed over to workers in Sher-e-Bengal Colony Ferozwala next month. Amendment would be made in the law for removing ban on contesting election of union council nazim for the third time, he added.
Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi said that the opposition is engaged in rumour-mongering about the assemblies since long but the assemblies would not only complete their constitutional term but their tenure can also be extended if opposition did not refrain from its negative propaganda. He said that the residential colonies, schools and hospitals are being set up for labour at Lahore, Faisalabad and Multan industrial estates. These facilities will also be provided in the three new industrial estates to be set up at Sialkot-Lahore Motorway, he added.
According to him, social security facilities are also being extended in Chakwal, Sargodha, Toba Tek Singh, Multan and Rajanpur. An amount of Rs 130 million would be spent on the construction of 100-bed social security hospital in Shahdara, which would benefit 500,000 family members of workers. The bed capacity of these hospitals would be further enhanced. Free treatment facilities and medicines would be provided to all emergency patients and modern surgical equipment and dialysis machines are being made available at these hospitals.
The chief minister further said that self-assessment system with regard to recovery of revenue is yielding highly satisfactory results and undue interference of social society inspectors has been checked. He said that private-public partnership is being encouraged for the establishment of hospitals in industrial estates. He said that 150-bed hospitals have been completed at Raiwind, Manga Mandi and Muzaffargarh under Health Management Social Security Company. Similarly, he said, a 150-bed hospital is being constructed at Sheikhupura.
"It has been decided to construct six new small hospitals for workers in the province. A 25-bed hospital would be constructed at R.Y Khan, 50-bed hospital in Bahawalpur, 25-bed hospital in Pirwala and 100-bed hospital at Muzaffargarh. Similarly, social security hospitals are also being constructed at Gujranwala, Multan, Kot Lakhpat and Joharabad. Moreover, 161 ambulances have been provided to social security hospitals while 24 more ambulances would be made available. Besides construction of new blocks at social security hospitals at Hafizabad, Gujrat and Phool Nagar, medical centers are also been upgraded," he added.
He said that medical officers and paramedical staff is being deputed at social security hospital Islamabad and a kidney centre is being established in Multan while social security is setting up a cardiac centre for industrial workers in Islamabad. He announced setting up of ICU in Gujranwala, outdoor ward in Social Security Hospital Multan and a state-of-the-art trauma center at Kot Lakhpat. He said that provision of modern equipment in social security hospitals is being ensured while the government is taking comprehensive measures for the uplift and betterment of workers.
The chief minister directed PHA to develop a beautiful park at Bara Dari. He also assured that practical steps are being taken for the improvement of sewerage and sanitation system in the area.
