The Punjab government has allocated an amount of Rs 6500 million for as many as 718 water supply and sanitation schemes in the province during the year 2007-08.
Stating this, Punjab Minister for Public Health Engineering Sardar Hassan Akhtar Mokal said here on Tuesday that the government is focusing on the uplift of social status of the common man and huge funds have been allocated under the social sector reforms programme.
He averred that Rs 3700 million have been allocated for water supply schemes while Rs 2800 million would be spent on sanitation schemes. During the fiscal year 2006-07, more than Rs 5 billion were spent on water and sanitation programme, he said, adding that under Punjab Community Water Supply and Sanitation Project (PCWSSP), 755 schemes have been completed in the rural areas of different districts at a cost of Rs 4282 million while in Rahim Yar Khan work is in underway on the sewerage schemes and installation of treatment plant, which would cost Rs 1094 million.
