Pakistan Muslim League President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain on Sunday said that opposition parties were trying to escape elections through raising lame excuses on the election arrangements.
In a statement issued here, the PML President said that on the start of the election process, the opposition had started talking about boycotting the next elections on the pretext of false accusations. He said the attitude of the opposition clearly indicates that they were afraid of the popularity of the PML in the masses.
Chaudhry Shujaat said through expressing lack of confidence in Election Commission, the opposition wanted to put pressure on the Commission to make way for getting the results of their choice.
He said PML government had asked the opposition leaders to present their recommendations on the appointment of chief election commissioner.
He said the PML government was still ready to negotiate and consult with the opposition to remove their apprehensions and reservations about the fair, free and impartial elections.
Chaudhry Shujaat said the PML government could meet any party, anywhere and any time to ensure that the next elections would be held in a fair, free and transparent manner.
He said the government would not allow to destabilise the democratic process through false and malicious propaganda of any party. The PML President said the next general elections would be held on time and those elements who are trying to sabotage the election process would not succeed in their nefarious designs.
He urged the opposition to adopt positive attitude and make sincere efforts to further strengthen the democratic process.
Chaudhry Shujaat said due to leadership qualities and bold decisions of President General Pervez Musharraf and strong and effective economic policies of Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, the country had achieved success in all the fields in the last seven years.
