Under its leadership programme, Global Organisation for Human Empowerment and Rights conducted a six-day youth leadership training course at Global Institute of Social Advancement Bahawalpur in which as many as 30 young students of colleges and universities participated.
The main theme of this course was the leadership development at grass roots level. On the final day of the training course, AG Chohan, the Chief Executive of Goher Foundation and the Director of Civil Servants Academy Bahawalpur, addressed the participants and lauded the enthusiasm and passion of the local youth towards the solutions of community problems.
He said that the biggest dilemma of Pakistani nation was the crisis of leadership. With few exceptions, Pakistani nation always suffered from acute shortage of genuine leaders.
Visionary and democratic leadership is the first and foremost condition to attain the cherished goal of prosperity, sovereignty and self-reliance of the nation. To stand with the confidence in the comity of nations, a country needs a corps of energetic leaders working at all tiers of national life, he added.
"In our country so-called leaders never bothered to groom leaders in community at grass-root level, which resulted in leadership vacuum." Leadership is not only a political phenomenon, but it compasses all spheres of social life ranging from domestic affairs to academic, corporate development, bureaucratic and economic life, he maintained.
Every body is obliged to groom and polish leadership skills in order to have a successful life. A father, mother, shopkeeper, businessman, farmer, every one needs to drive and motivate persons working under its influence. Charisma is not the phenomenon limited to politicians, but it has the significance for every body aspiring to solve the problems in any sphere of life, he observed.
He further said that the greatest icon of charismatic and democratic leadership is the role model of the last Prophet of Allah, Holy Prophet (PBUH) who invoked the greatest revolution of human civilisation in a very short span of time.
"Our youth has enormous energy, talent, passion and spirit. But unfortunately all the capabilities of the youth go wasted because they have no forum to groom and express their skills." Goher Foundation has realised the severity of problem and is trying to harness the potential of capable youth, he said.
The Foundation aims at preparing 1,000 corps of young social leaders in the 14 districts of Southern Punjab. He also invited the other organisations and agencies to join the mission.
At the end of the session, course participants provided their feedback and emphasised the need for establishing the institutions as Goher Institute of Social Advancement in all districts and tehsils of Southern Punjab as female youth of these backward areas find it difficult to move to big cities.
Zahoor Hussain Khan, the Regional General Manager of National Rural Support Programme, Malik Yousuf Ali, former ambassador of Pakistan to Vietnam and Shahazada Khurram, Regional Co-ordinator of Goher Foundation in Islamabad also spoke on the occasion.
