Punjab government has approved a special grant of Rs 350 million for replacing rusty and rotten water pipelines in Sialkot city. Official sources told Business Recorder here on Saturday that work on this project would soon be initiated in the area.
The concept of laying new water pipelines was to provide hygienic drinkable water to the citizen as well as to reduce the wastage of water in Sialkot city sources added.
It may be mentioned that water supply system had become defective as a result of which the quality of the water had become unfit for human use. The Sialkot district administration report revealed that 27 samples of drinking water were collected from various of the district and analysed by EPA Laboratory (Lahore) of which 8 samples had been found unfit.
The main reason of this contamination was that local industrial units are generating poisonous wastewater without treatment and sewerage. Besides, underground septic tanks for flushes and mixing of drinking water with sewerage water were creating problems for the citizen sources added.
